Stavanger is often called “Norway’s largest small town”. It is known for being cozy and friendly with it’s cobble stone roads in the old town, a 900 year cathedral and festivals celebrating food and music. Stavanger is the gateway to the fjords with Pulpit Rock and Kjerag. One of the most popular attractions in the district is Pulpit Rock with around 400,000 visitors annually. Another is our Cathedral, Norway’s oldest, from 1125 AD. In addition we have the charming “Old Stavanger” consisting mainly of small, white wooden houses with cobble stone roads. If you are into more modern culture, may we suggest you try some of our restaurants and coffee shops, the Petroleum Museum or maybe even search for our modern street art. We also have a colorful street called “Fargegaten” where old wooden houses have been painted with bright colors. Here you will find cafes, a hairdresser, pubs and small boutiques.
