By noon, HKSYU received over 13,000 applications, submitted either in person or via its online platform — representing a 15% year-on-year increase. Among the most popular departments were Social Work, Business Administration, and Journalism and Communication. She synthesised findings from large-scale, interdisciplinary studies conducted by HKSYU and partner universities, examining resilience processes and mental health functioning across generations, from “Generation Alpha” (born from the early 2010s to the mid-2020s) to the Baby Boomers (born 1946-64) in Hong Kong. Immersive Heritage Experience: Cheung Chau Jiao Festival Mixed Reality Tour Hong Kong Shue Yan University held the “Cheung Chau Jiao Festival Mixed Reality Tour and Public Launch,” offering the public an opportunity to relive the 2025 festival through a Mixed Reality (MR) platform. This immersive experience allows participants to step into the vibrant streets of Cheung Chau and explore the intricate details and vitality of traditional culture. HKSYU Seminar Highlights Integrated Strategies to Inclusive Education The Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) hosted the “Inclusion and Wellness: Integrated Strategies for SEN Support” seminar and workshop. Several experts shared practical insights on how to understand and support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), aiming to enhance their mental health and promote inclusive education. Nearly 300 educators and parents attended. HKSYU Receives QESS Funding to Build New Industrial Attachment Platform Hong Kong Shue Yan University has received grants totalling nearly HK$4.9 million from the Education Bureau’s Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) to develop a one-stop cloud-based resource platform for industrial attachment (OCRPIA). This platform will consolidate internship and employment resources across academic and administrative departments, along with student portfolios, to enhance collaboration with external partners and strengthen students’ work-readiness and employability. Academics HKSYU Seminar on Mental Health and Well-being The Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) hosted the “Mental Health Day: The Healing Power of Chatting” seminar and workshops on 17 July 2026. Experts from education, social welfare, psychology, and sports gathered to explore approaches to mental health and stress relief, while equipping front-line educators with strategies to foster an inclusive campus environment. Ms Lee San-san, former Miss Hong Kong, was invited as the keynote speaker. Drawing on her personal battle with panic disorder, she shares how she overcame life’s darkest moments. 55th Anniversary Community Service Project: Sociology Department Introduces “Digital Heritage in a New Dimension” The Department of Sociology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) held a 55th Anniversary Community Service Project event on 3rd July. Partnering with the HKPC Academy under the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the department hosted a one-hour workshop titled “Preserving Memory in ‘3D’: Digital Heritage in a New Dimension” during the annual EdTech event, “Summer TechEd Fest 2026.” 55th Anniversary Community Service Project: English Department Promotes “Customised AI Assistance for Smart Learning” The Department of English Language and Literature at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) held a 55th Anniversary Community Service Project event on 3rd July. Bringing together teams from six secondary schools, the workshop offered more than 20 students a practical introduction to the core concepts and skills of mediation. HKSYU Athletes’ Guizhou Tour Highlights Victory and Friendship Organised by the Office of Student Affairs of Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) and supported by HYAB Funding Scheme for Youth Exchange in the Mainland, the “Guizhou Sports and Cultural Exchange Tour” took place from 24 to 28 June. As the University’s first sports-themed exchange initiative, it brought together 31 student-athletes from the men’s football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball teams, marking a new chapter in youth sports exchange between Hong Kong and Guizhou. Isaac Yu’s Counselling Journey: From Student to Pioneer Mr Yu Chun-yeung (Isaac)’s journey in counselling psychology began at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU). Despite early academic setbacks in public exams, he graduated at the top of his bachelor’s class. He then became a pioneer in the field as part of the inaugural cohort of HKSYU’s Master of Social Sciences in Counselling Psychology in 2012. Today, Isaac continues to advance counselling psychology through frontline practice, professional training, and teaching, driven by his vision of embedding the discipline within the community. HKSYU’s First Doctoral Graduate in Economics and Finance and History MPhil Success Dr Chen Siming, under the supervision of Professor Rita Li (primary supervisor), Director of the Master of Science in Financial Technology Management; Dr Edward Tang (co-supervisor), Associate Head of Department of Economics and Finance, has successfully completed his PhD as the department’s first doctoral graduate. He has since joined Anhui Xinhua University as a lecturer.
